Alright, I need help!
Modern poets (preferably Canadian) who either do spoken word, or have stong aural elements to their writing, and have enough of a canonic standing that they would be acceptable to an English prof.
Go! |

bp nichols (though I guess he's dead)
& bill bissett (not dead!)
in tha canon....
I don't know - define yer canon. There many not be that many 'modern' spoken word canucks with enough publishing history to reach a prof's canon. _________________ Thus Spake Tourette. |

I believe I've still got some bill bissett recordings you could have if you want them. I won them and ended up with two sets. Just need to dig up the box with the extras.
Canon is tricksy. _________________ Tell me a story about trollops and plugtails... please? |

bill is totally in the canon. he was a major major part of a canadian poetry class i took at queen's. he's also really cool. period. _________________ Near the Lighthouse

Catherine Kidd and Sea Peach is a full performance kind of deal.
She's a wild one.
And Clive Holden reads his poetry like no one else. He made a record with The Weakerthans for his book Trains of Winnipeg. I'm a huge Clive Holden fan-- he sounds like a the spirit of the railroad. Old as the hils. Epic. And he's totally multimedia savvy ta boot-- he makes his own films of his poetry. Check it at www.trainsofwinnipeg.com |

I just spent the entire weekend with Catherine Kidd. She is the coolest person. So much fun and really quite brilliant. Her new work is amazing. _________________ Near the Lighthouse |

Wow- so many replies.
I saw Lillian Allen do a reading. I like everything she stands for, but I hate her actual poetry. How much sense does that make?!?
Sheri-D Wilson I just don't enjoy on any level.
But yeah, Bok- I've got to hunt down some more.
It turns out that my first choice, Wade Compton, is actually legit enough for me to do my project on, so yay for that! |
